Throughout his career in public service, Gary Peters has been a strong, independent voice for Michigan’s families and small businesses. In the U.S. Senate, his top priority is to continue supporting job creation and economic growth to strengthen our middle class. Gary is committed to working with members of both parties to find commonsense, practical and bipartisan solutions to the challenges facing our nation.
For more than 20 years, Gary worked as an investment advisor, helping families save for their retirement and provide for their children’s college education. At age 34, he volunteered for the U.S. Navy Reserve and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
First elected to the House of Representatives in 2008 and the Senate in 2014, Gary has drawn on his business background to make Washington more transparent and accountable, leading efforts to eliminate wasteful spending and responsibly reduce the deficit. He fought alongside workers to ensure the survival of Michigan's auto industry through unprecedented economic challenges, and he's now working on the Senate Commerce Committee to ensure America remains a leader in the next frontier of autonomous and connected vehicles. As a member of the Senate Small Business Committee, Gary is working to expand access to capital and cut red tape for the startups and entrepreneurs who are the backbone of our economy.
